Munsterlanders are working dogs born and bred! It is true that some breeding lines are better 'workers' than others but all Munsterlanders should be able to work. We encourage the working ability of all our dogs and strive to incorporate proven working lines in all our pedigrees.

Tully and Carol

Working Test Winners

When I started training Tully seriously and had got to the point of needing a little more help I found it difficult to find HPR training.   Luckily we were welcomed at the Southern Society for Irish Red and White Setter classes.  He was the first dog to gain the bronze, silver and gold shot tests run by the IRWS club of GB, doing them all in style on the same day.  We have been to a few of their training days and everyone has been most welcoming and helpful.  He has also won the advanced class at Christchurch and District Gundog Club’s fun working test, and the SSIRWS advanced class at their field assessment day.  Eventually we managed to attend the LMC Natural Aptitude test which Tully passed with flying colours.  Having seen the enthusiasm Tully has for working we joined the Bristol & West Working Gundog Society and by the end of the year we entered our first working test where he was placed a respectable 4th out of an entry of 22 dogs.  At only his 3rd test he has won out of the Novice class with a 1st place out of 38 dogs at the Hungarian Viszla Clubs working test.  He has been out picking up partridge, pheasant and Pigeon.

Nigel has enjoyed working Spot too and Japser is fitting in his working training in between his wonderful show career.

Ever alert Spot doesn't miss a thing, the photo's were taken at a working test, Nigel is watching the handler, whilst Spot has already marked the retrieve!

We train with Lez Graham who has just published ‘The Pet Gundog’.  It was written for anyone who has a gundog breed as a pet and gives an eye-opening insight into how they think and a practical training guide.  I would recommend it to all new puppy owners.  These photos were taken for use in the book but I have been given them as a thank you.

Jasper is still training hard and as you can see is now picking up game and pointing chickens!
